Floetry - If I Was A Bird
...written on Monday, Jan. 10, 2005, @ 10:03 PM
Day five: No words were exchanged today. But still, today was a good day. Why?
Today, I was watching an all time favorite movie of mines in titled, “Forest Gump”. And although I have seen this movies nearly a thousand times, this was the first time that I’ve realized how excellent of a movie that it is, and I’ve realized that there were a lot of messages in a movie that could inspire so many people to take off their cools, change their whole attitudes and simply move. Even though Forest was the product of a single family house hold and wasn’t very intellectual, Forest was a football star all though college and even earned a degree from the University of Alabama. Upon his graduation, he even went into the U.S. Army just out of curiosity, and ended up being honored with the Congressional Metal of Honor for saving Lieutenant Dan’s life as well as several other men in his infantry when he was only looking for his dear friend Bubba. Although Forest was wounded in the mist of his heroic act and became hospitalized, he developed a passion for playing ping pong after being teased for watching a silly television show as his wound healed. Forest passion had become so strong that he went All-American on the ping pong team and traveled to China with his team to victory. Shortly after his victory, he was discharged from the army. Just as Forest’s life couldn’t become any more extraordinary, he returned home to get the money needed to start a shrimp-boat business that his second friend had told him all about; needless to say, Forest kept his word to Bubba and took all $24, 627 and $.14 he had left and invested his money in the business. He also became a successful business man and made the cover of Fortune Magazine as he capitalized on Bubba’s dream he was even able to expand the business from one boat to twelve shrimp-boats. Just as Forest’s life couldn’t get any better, his mother died; and even in the mist of Forest’s sadness, he was bought out by Apple Computer’s and was now a millionaire. And even though Forest had met three United States Presidents, been to two different countries, was on two separate All-American Teams, met both John Lennon and Elvis Presley as well as George Wallace in addition to many others, and passed all kinds of historical events such as witnessing the break-in of Watergate, the desegregation of the University of Alabama, witnessed the attempting assassinations of four different presidents, as well as all kinds of other events there was only one thing Forest wanted more: Jenny. The moral of the story is: this is a man only had three friends (Jenny, Bubba, and Lieutenant Dan) and one parent; and even though he had major success that many would sell their soul to the devil for all Forest wanted was the love of his life Jenny. Forest was so simple that although he was a millionaire, at any given moment Forest would risk it all just to be by his best friend’s side, Jenny. Even though Forest had tons of things to occupy his time, most of the time all he thought about was Jenny.
The moral of the email is: Destiny sometimes occurs on accident, and although you have all of the fantasized material things in life, the only thing important is to have one true love and to never let it go. As you can see from both the movie as well as the book, everything in Forest’s life occurred on accident. Meaning, don’t always go looking for your destiny to come to you, sometimes you’ve just got to get up and go run for it. You’ll never know when it might find you along the way. Besides, you’ll never know what God has in store for you.
I bet if Forest Gump could hear this song, he could truly relate. Not only does this song remind me of he and Jenny, but it also reminds me of myself and KT.
